Hi guys!
I’m so excited for this post because I’m doing my first luxury handbag review and also telling you about my experience with buying my first luxury handbag.
You can watch it here or you can read below! 🙂
I’m by no means an expert because I haven’t collected that many handbags but I definitely wanted to review my two Gucci Mormont bags in case anyone else is deciding between which one to get or if you’re thinking about getting your first bag (even if it’s not these two), I can let you know some of the things I considered while I was buying. Before going into it further, one of these bags is actually my moms so I wanted to say that before y’all think I bought two similar bags.
ANYWAY… I’m gonna start off with MY personal guide to buying your first hand bag, and once again wanted to do a disclaimer that Im not an expert, I just wanted to run you by the things that I considered. if you’re here just for the review, i’ll leave a time stamp here for you to check out
ONE: PURPOSE
When you figure out your purpose of the bag, it will already help you determine SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS such as your price point, colour, brand, etc.
PERSONALLY for my very first handbag (and this might be different for everyone), is that I wanted a bag that I could use almost everyday and I could take nice pictures with that made a statement.
TWO: PRICE POINT
The second thing that you should consider is PRICE POINT
For me, since it was my very first luxury hand bag purchase, I wanted something not too expensive (for example, for the same size/type of bag, Chanel would be a lot more expensive) because I didn’t want to start off with THE BEST AND MOST LUXURIOUS already, I sorta wanted to work my way up if ya know what I mean. Obviously everyone’s thoughts are different and I also know people who are very happy with their first luxury bag being a Chanel or something but this was something that I wanted personally because I wanted to work for it and not just go for the top right away.
THREE: COLOUR
Since I wanted this to be everyday, black was an obvious choice. And once again, I think this depends on the type of person buying as well – if luxury handbags are a once in a blue moon thing like it is for me, it’s important that I buy colours that are not going to go out of style. However if you’re someone who collects luxury handbags, this might not be as important
FOUR: VERSAALITY & STYLE OF BAG
For me, I wanted to use this quite frequently so picking a style that suited these needs was also important.
OK SO NOW WITH A LITTLE STORY OF HOW I GOT MY LUXURY HANDBAG…
I got my Gucci bag about two years ago, whe Gucci’s new logo peaked in its popularity. It’s still super popular now and they’ve even launched more colours for their Marmont collection.
I was debating on which Gucci Mormont bag to get because after thinking about all the things I mentioned earlier, the Gucci Mormont bag was what suited everything that I was looking for in terms of price point, use, colour etc. The only thing was I couldn’t decide between the camera bag and the flap bag.
I never really reached my decision until I went to SF with my parents and at the airport going back home, Gucci actually had a duty-free shop in their airport and my parents offered to buy it for me which was so nice of them :’) so I basically had to make the decision on the spot which bag and size I wanted. After about 30-45 minutes trying it on back and forth, I ended up going with the flap bag. The reason I ended up going with it was because you can wear it 3 different ways instead of just the two and the velvet made the bag look really black which looked really good in photos. I ended up going with it and then right after my decision, my mom was like “I’ll take the other bag for myself” and I’m like ARE YOU SERIOUSSSSSS why didn’t you tell me this because we literally just wasted 45 min when you were gonna just buy the two bags LOOOL
Anyway, every time I go to Vancouver I would leave this Gucci bag at home and just use my mom’s whenever I went and after using it for AWHILE the long story short is that I actually ended up liking her bag wayyyyyyyy more and I’m gonna break it down to you exactly why LOL
So my mom’s bag is the Gucci Mormont Camera Bag in Leather size SMALL. At the time of purchase (I believe it’s gone up now), the bag was around $1300 CAD without tax
My bag is the Gucci Mormont Flap Bag in VELVET size MINI. At the time of purchase I believe it was $2100 CAD without tax.
- Price perspective, the camera bag was so much more worth it because technically her bag is bigger and fits more, leather is more expensive than velvet, and also it is more versatile
- WHY IS IT MORE VERSATILE? I have legitimately LOST things with MY Gucci bag because of the two holes on the side including a pair of Mejuri earrings and it’s one of those things where sometimes I’ll be having a good day and I remember I lost my Mejuri earrings and I’m just like o___O for the rest of the day LOL
- EASIER TO TAKE CARE OF – so already one of the reasons I never bought the LEATHER flap bag was because I noticed a lot of people that were wearing it, their flap would actually become VERY CREASED and lose its shape. The velvet already eliminates that problem A LOT but with the camera bag, this is not even something you need to worry about. It’s also easier in my opinion to clean the leather than the velvet
ALL IN ALL I’m not saying that you should get the camera bag over the flap – I think what I’m trying to say is that if your purpose of getting the bag was the same as mine which was to get an everyday bag, I definitely made the wrong choice in getting the flap since it was more risky to keep things in there and use everyday. If you are choosing between the two and your reasons is more a statement bag and to use it on special occasions, I 100% think the flap bag is much more AESTHETICALLY pleasing especially with the gold chains on the side.
The other thing I wanted to mention is that the reason I got the mini in the Gucci bag is because the small visibly looked way too big and as a smaller person it was
One complaint I have about the camera bag is that the zipper doesn’t zip too smoothly but I’m not sure if this is just a defect for this bag and I should get it checked out or if it’s because these bags in general are like this. If you have this bag pls let me know in the comment section LOL
Anyway I hope that you guys enjoyed this and let me know if you’d like to see another handbag review from me! I don’t have that many luxury hand bags so there’s gonna be like 4 of these reviews max LOOOOL
Love,
Lisa
