For those of you who have known me for a long time, you probably know that I’m a sucker for warehouse sales and I’ve been going to the Aritzia Warehouse sale since I was in grade 6. That’s nearly 10 years O.O #nolife #veteran. Anyway, after going for so many damn years I’ve learned a thing or two about shopping at this warehouse sale (or warehouse sales in general…) so I thought I’d share my tips and tricks to make the most out of this hectic experience.
1. WEAR CLOTHES THAT ARE EASY TO TAKE ON AND OFF
The thing about warehouse sales is that everything they sell is final sale. That means you definitely have to try on the clothes before purchasing it. Another reason trying on is important is because sometimes you’ll realize defective details that you wouldn’t have noticed had you not tried it on. That being said, you need to wear clothes that are easy to take on and off so you don’t waste your time.
You also need to wear a pair of comfortable shoes so you’re able to run around the entire venue no problem LIKE CHASING THAT B**** THAT TOOK YOU SHIRT (lol jk don’t do that but if she really took your shirt…)
2. WEAR A TWO PIECE INSTEAD OF ONE (AKA DRESS, JUMPSUIT ETC)
This year, I wore a tube top from Brandy Melville – it made it super easy to take on and off and it even made it easy to try things on outside the change rooms when the line-ups get too long. I also wore shorts that were easy to pull off so that way I could try on different tops while having a pair of black shorts to see how it would look. Wearing a classic tube top also made it easy because it pretty much went with any pair of pants I put on.
3. do not wear artizia clothes (or whatever brand that’s hosting the sale)
The thing is, a lot of clothes they sell don’t have price tags on (sometimes because customers try it on and it falls off). That being said, if you wear something nice from Aritzia and someone picks it up while you’re changing, they might end up purchasing it (true story).
4. WEAR PROPER UNDERWEAR
If you’re trying out a bunch of different outfits, you need to wear undergarments that can match the most number of outfits. For me, that would be my strapless nude bra because I get to see what a piece of clothing looks like when I wear whites, strapless, or tank tops. For underwear, I also suggest wearing something nude if you like white bottoms (or a thong).
5. BRING A SMALL PURSE THAT DOESN’T NEED TO BE COAT CHECK
This year, a woman lost her LV purse because the coat check person gave someone else her bag. This also happened to me when the coat check person offered me someone else’s nice purse. Moral of the story is that you don’t want to lose your valuables because the sale gets too busy and some people out there are evil #ihatehumans.
Additionally, this helps you save time so you don’t have to line up for coat check the minute you get inside and you can get straight to the clothes (AND you don’t have to line up on the way out).
6. BRING WATER!!!!!!!! AND FOOD BUT MOSTLY WATER!!!!
If you’re like me and plan on staying at the warehouse sale for a couple of hours, you need to bring water to refuel yourself. If you’re planning to stay there for really long (like me #oops #guilty), you should also bring snacks when you’re lining up for the sale or even when you’re inside to help you refuel. The first few years that I’ve been going to the warehouse sale, I never thought of bringing food or water but I always felt like dying when I leave #DramaQueenHour. When I brought my mom she was smart enough to bring both food and water for us which kept us going for the whole day #MyMomIsAsCrazyAsMe.
If you’ve attended the sale before, you know that you don’t just go into the sale. You have to earn your way through by lining up for hours. That being said, you should probably have a strategy going in so you get what you want and you don’t feel like the line-up was a waste. Even if you’re not first in line, these tips will help to keep you organized in a hectic condition.
1. MAKE A LIST
I don’t mean that you have to physically write a list down but you should have an idea in your head of the things you want to look for. This is usually the stuff that you’ve wanted in stores but didn’t buy it because of the price. This list is important because it helps you filter and prioritize your items when you’re at the sale.
2. go after THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER ITEMS FIRST
You want to go after the most-wanted items first because they’ll be the first to go. Or at least the common sizes will be the first to go. That being said, if the “most popular” items are part of your list, you should go to these first.
I’m not sure if this is 100% true, but after going for so many years, I feel like these are the most popular items (in order):
- Winter jackets (parkas)
- Wool coats
- Jeans
- Sweaters
- Pants
From experience, these are usually the most difficult to find because they have the biggest savings. But once again, not sure if this is actually true but this is what I usually notice when I go.
2. HAVE A “YES” “NO” “MAYBE” PILE
Filtering is your best friend at these warehouse sales. You need to grab first and think later. When you think first it might be gone SO PRIORITIZE, PEOPLE!!!!
My last tip…
GO TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY EVEN THE DAY BEFORE IF YOU CAN
The warehouse sale always has a friends & family event one day before the actual sale. If you can, try to cop a ticket from a friend that works at Aritzia because it will save you a lot more time waiting in line and potentially better things at the sale!
